Mantis Shrimp Eye

Mantis Shrimp Eye

Here are a few images from the night dives on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The water was warm, current mild and diving was enjoyable despite fighting the masses of moon jellyfish.

This is the first time I have tried sticking a diopter in the face of a (very large) Mantis Shrimp. Thank goodness it was cooperative and did not attack the camera.  I found several Shellback Crabs, which for me are just about the ugliest thing in the ocean. There were a lot of beautifully colored juvenile scorpionfish out, a scallop with two different colored eyes, and a small sea robin posing in the sand.

P.S.  I don’t have proof of the 1/4″ long flying fish I found floating with the sargassum, but I do have witnesses.  It was just impossible to photograph.

    Hi Susan
Photos are all outstanding, but the long spine sea biscuit I love the best. First time I have ever seen one. Thanks so much for sharing.
