Whale Sharks 2013

Whale Shark, Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Whale Shark, Isla Mujeres, Mexico

Jim and I traveled to Isla Mujeres, Mexico in July to snorkel with Whale Sharks.  It was an Abernethy Scuba Adventures trip and we were joined by Anne and Norm Dupont. We had only one day on the water as Jim fractured a vertebrae in his lower back on the second day out.  (Jim is doing much better after having Vertebroplasty back surgery).  However, the one day we had was spectacular, mostly sunny, blue water and calm seas.   The Whale Sharks were an average of 30 feet long and there were an estimated 100 plus sharks.

The photos were taken with a 10mm fisheye lens, so I was extremely close.  It was a wonderful experience swimming with these gentle giants.

The video is awesome. At times it seems the whale shark are right in front of you and than pass beneath you. Those are out of this world shots. Thank you for sharing.
Jim, glad to hear you are doing so much better since your surgery. Hope to see you both at the bridge one of these days.
