Blue Heron Bridge – 03/16/12

Juvenile Lionfish, approximagely 2″ long

Dove  the East side  for the first time since the bridge construction was completed.  Water was a cool 78 degrees.  Found several nudibranchs and a flatworm thanks to Judy and Anne.  Found very large live sand dollars burried just under the rubble and discovered their beautiful patterns after brushing off the sand.  One was beige and the other pink, both at least 6″ across.  Came across a juvenile Lionfish.  Too bad they are so destructive because they sure make a stunning photo subject.  After photographing it, Jim and I tried to stab it with our muck sticks but that didn’t work so well and it escaped into a nearby structure.  And finally a large Banded Jawfish with new eggs and a Lined Seahorse.
